Amazon has introduced a brand-new feature for Kindle users that makes it easier to jump back into a book series without needing to reread earlier volumes. Called Recaps, this feature offers short summaries of key plot points and character arcs to help readers catch up quickly before starting the next book in a series.

While Amazon’s announcement didn’t highlight it, the company confirmed that these summaries are powered by generative AI (GenAI), with additional oversight from human moderators. According to spokesperson Ale Iraheta, this tech-driven approach ensures each recap reflects the original book content as accurately as possible.

Currently available to Kindle device users in the U.S., Recaps cover thousands of best-selling English-language book series. Amazon also plans to roll out the feature to the Kindle app for iOS soon, expanding access to even more readers.

The company says this new tool is designed to enhance the reading experience by removing the friction that often comes with returning to long-running series. Whether readers are diving into epic fantasy, suspenseful thrillers, or classic sagas, Recaps aim to make it easier to pick up where they left off.

To access the feature, users must ensure their Kindle device has the latest software update. Once updated, readers will find a “View Recaps” button on the series page in their Kindle Library or within the three-dot menu of a series grouping. Before viewing a recap, users will receive a spoiler warning, letting them know that major plot details will be revealed.

Despite the convenience, some readers have voiced concerns in online forums, particularly about how reliable these AI-generated summaries will be. In response, Amazon emphasized that the recaps are reviewed to maintain accuracy and quality.

In a blog post, Amazon described the feature as a way to “add a new level of convenience to series reading,” allowing users to stay immersed in complex worlds and narratives—without losing the joy of discovery. The summaries are crafted to be brief yet informative, helping readers remember where the story left off without giving away too much.

With Recaps, Kindle readers can enjoy a seamless transition between books, whether they’re revisiting beloved characters or diving into new adventures. As Amazon continues to enhance the Kindle experience with AI-powered tools, Recaps marks a meaningful step toward smarter, more user-friendly digital reading.
