Astronomer, the data orchestration startup behind the Astro platform, has raised a $93 million Series D funding round to accelerate its mission of streamlining complex data pipelines for AI development. The round was led by Bain Capital Ventures, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, Insight Partners, Meritech Capital, and Venrock. Though the company didn’t reveal its valuation, the funding signals strong investor confidence in the startup’s rapid growth and long-term vision.

Based in New York, Astronomer has become increasingly vital as businesses scale their AI capabilities. Its Astro platform helps automate data pipelines and unify workflows across fragmented systems — a growing challenge in AI and machine learning development. As AI models require vast, well-orchestrated datasets to perform, tools like Astro are becoming indispensable.

The company is currently riding a wave of momentum. CEO Andy Byron shared that Astronomer is seeing 150% annual revenue growth and expects to reach profitability within the next two years. He credited Bain Capital for believing in the vision from the early days, adding that all investors remain aligned with Astronomer’s long-term goals. He noted the rising demand for scalable data tools and macroeconomic trends favoring AI development as major tailwinds pushing the platform forward.

Since launching in 2018, Astronomer has now raised nearly $376 million in total. This latest capital injection will support product development, team expansion, and scaling customer adoption, particularly among enterprises building next-gen AI applications.

Astronomer’s success also reflects a broader trend in venture capital: the unstoppable surge of AI-related investment. According to recent Crunchbase data, the AI sector led global venture funding in Q1 2025, pulling in $59.6 billion — over half of all venture capital deployed worldwide. It marks the strongest quarter ever for AI, underscoring how foundational data orchestration platforms like Astro are to AI’s future.
