General Motors (GM) is deepening its collaboration with Nvidia to embed artificial intelligence across every layer of its operations. This expanded partnership will transform GM’s manufacturing plants, robotics, and future self-driving vehicles with cutting-edge AI technology.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced the strategic alliance during his keynote at the GTC conference in San Jose. “The era of autonomous vehicles is here,” Huang stated, emphasizing the vast potential of this collaboration. “We’re excited to work with GM on AI for manufacturing, enterprise-level design, and in-vehicle experiences.”

Inside the GM Nvidia AI Partnership: A Powerful Tech Collaboration

At the core of this partnership, Nvidia will supply its powerful AI infrastructure — primarily its advanced GPUs — to GM. The automaker plans to harness these tools to build its own AI systems tailored to its diverse operations.

Nvidia’s long-standing expertise in the automotive space made it the ideal partner. The tech giant has already supplied GPUs to Tesla, Waymo, and other autonomous vehicle innovators. Its robust autonomous vehicle platform — featuring DriveOS — provides real-time AI processing, integrating complex driving and in-cabin safety features.

Earlier this year, Toyota also tapped into Nvidia’s Drive AGX Orin supercomputer for its next-generation vehicles, reinforcing Nvidia’s growing influence in the automotive AI space.

AI-Driven Smart Factories and Robotics in the Spotlight

One of the key highlights of this deal is GM’s plan to leverage Nvidia’s Omniverse platform alongside Cosmos. This integration will help GM design, test, and optimize next-generation factories using virtual simulations.

By creating digital twins of entire manufacturing facilities and assembly lines, GM can virtually test new production methods without interrupting real-world vehicle production. These simulations will also train robotics platforms already in use for tasks like material handling, transportation, and precision welding.

This AI-powered approach aims to streamline operations, reduce production errors, and drive greater efficiency across GM’s global manufacturing network.

Supercharging In-Vehicle AI for Safer, Smarter Driving

The partnership also extends to enhancing GM’s in-vehicle systems. GM will integrate Nvidia’s Drive AGX hardware into its vehicles, setting the stage for next-level driver assistance features and in-cabin safety technologies.

This shift comes as GM pivots away from its commercial robotaxi ambitions. Instead, it is doubling down on advancing its Super Cruise hands-free driving system and exploring fully autonomous personal vehicles.

GM is currently absorbing its self-driving unit, Cruise, folding its operations into its broader driver-assistance programs. The move signals GM’s renewed focus on perfecting hands-off driving features for private vehicles rather than commercial fleets.

A Long-Standing Relationship Gets a Major Boost

While GM has long used Nvidia’s GPUs to train AI models for simulations, this expanded collaboration takes things further. The deal — though undisclosed in value — now covers AI-driven improvements in plant design, factory operations, and vehicle technology.

Nvidia’s CEO reaffirmed the company’s flexible approach during the keynote. “We build all three computers — training, simulation, and robotics — along with the software stack, models, and algorithms,” Huang explained. “Whether it’s manufacturing or in-vehicle AI, we’re here to support the automotive industry’s evolving needs.”

GM’s deeper alliance with Nvidia marks a pivotal step in its mission to integrate AI into every part of its business. From intelligent factories and autonomous robots to safer, smarter vehicles, this partnership signals GM’s commitment to leading the automotive industry into a future powered by artificial intelligence.
