Today, TurinTech announced the launch of its flagship platform Artemis during NVIDIA’s GTC event, alongside news of raising $20 million in total funding.

The rise of AI-powered coding assistants like Cursor and GitHub Copilot has introduced a new trend—what some in the industry now call “vibe coding.” Coined by renowned computer scientist Andrej Karpathy, vibe coding refers to a hands-off approach where developers lean heavily on generative AI models to write most of their code. It’s fast, convenient, and undeniably growing.

In fact, Y Combinator recently revealed that nearly 25% of startups in its latest cohort generate about 95% of their codebases using AI tools. While the speed is impressive, serious concerns are emerging over the quality, security, and technical debt that may pile up behind the scenes. One startup aiming to fix this growing problem is UK-based TurinTech.

Introducing Artemis: Evolutionary AI for Smarter Code Optimization

Founded by Dr. Leslie Kanthan (CEO), Mike Basios (CTO), and Fan Wu (Chief Science Officer), TurinTech designed Artemis as an advanced AI code optimization platform. Unlike standard AI coding tools that focus solely on generating code, Artemis digs deeper—refining, validating, and enhancing the code to maximize performance, strengthen security, and improve scalability.

“As you generate more code, inefficiencies inevitably creep in,” Kanthan told TechCrunch. “Artemis identifies these inefficiencies, optimizes the code, and ensures it runs faster while consuming fewer resources.”

What sets Artemis apart from tools like GitHub Copilot or Cursor is its validation-first approach. While those tools predict the next lines of code, they don’t check or optimize what’s already written. Artemis, on the other hand, applies an “evolutionary AI” technique to refine the code intelligently.

“For instance, Copilot predicts your next move, but it won’t verify if your existing code is efficient or secure,” Kanthan explained. “Traditionally, developers rely on basic tools connected to compilers to catch errors. Artemis takes it a step further by continuously evolving the code to make it leaner and more robust.”

Built on Academic Research, Backed by Leading Investors

The Artemis platform is inspired by Kanthan’s 2018 academic research, which introduced a Darwinian approach to data structure selection—laying the foundation for what TurinTech now calls evolutionary AI. This method enables Artemis to adapt and improve code over time, much like natural selection.

Backing this innovative approach is a recently closed $15 million Series A round, led by Oxford Capital, with support from Circle Rock and IQ Capital. Combined with earlier seed funding of $5 million, TurinTech has now secured a total of $20 million to propel its mission forward.

Although the company remains tight-lipped about its client list, TurinTech shared confidential proof with Startupmars confirming that major banks and blue-chip firms are already part of its early adopter program. The full public release of Artemis is slated for later this year.

AI Code Generation: A Double-Edged Sword

The timing couldn’t be better. AI-generated code is reshaping software development faster than anyone predicted. According to Gartner, 75% of enterprise software engineers will rely on AI coding assistants by 2028, a staggering leap from just 10% in early 2023.

Similarly, a Stack Overflow survey found that 63% of developers have already integrated AI tools into their daily workflows. While these numbers highlight the growing dependence on AI, they also underscore the potential risks—inefficient code, security loopholes, and technical debt that could haunt businesses in the long run.

TurinTech positions Artemis as the answer to these emerging challenges. By combining AI code optimization with robust validation processes, Artemis ensures that businesses can safely harness the speed of AI-driven coding—without sacrificing quality or long-term scalability.
